Migrating up rivers from the sea to fresh water

"Ebb and flow, beauty and loss have been constant through my artistic practice. Initially, the work appears romantic. The pieces are accessible through their familiarity, but there is an uncomfortable tension between the surfaces, sanded, slashed, laid over with metallic pigment and the image. Colour is integrated with the scars of the process, moving these pieces in a subtly different direction, exploring further extensions in materiality and metaphor. The process, tattooing its existence into the work, becomes just as integral to the drawing as the resulting image."
